The first thing to note about this set is that it is deceptively small, I wasn't expecting a full 1980s size Boombox but the size of this is, nevertheless, disappointing. The fact you can close it up in to a compact unit or open the front to depict it as a stage with runway is a bonus but it still feels a little bit cramped.
To the rear of the set is a chill out or dressing room area. Unfortunately this is really, really small and you are going to struggle to tget any of the invluded minifigures in there. The other issue is that when closed you have to put the minifigures on the top as it simply will not close up if you try and have them on the stage - sort of spoils the whole playset thing this set has going on. You can get a couple stored in the back of the unit but you just have to throw them in and leave them loose. So, this is going to end up with the minifigures displayed on the top and in a closed position. Bit of a shame as it does contain some cool features that covered up.
The set comes with 4 minifigures:
Alien Singer
Leopard Guitarist
Vampire Guitarist
Fairy Singer
They are all highly detailed with torso, leg and feet prints and they have some interesting moulds. All of the moulds in the set are reused from Cycle One of the Bandmates but I'm not complaining as character slike the Leopard really benefit with another outing. Each figure has it's own beatbit and the icon at the top of the stage has 4 options that also tie in with the characters so that's a cool feature in and of itself. There are also 14 Beatbits included that are randomised but I'm happy enough to have duplicates in my stash for these.
There are a lot of moveable parts but these mainly rely on turning a column round to display a different face, most of these have a mechanism to make this easier to achieve so that is a plus point. It is quite a bright set despite having so much black included. With highlights in teal, yellow and pink they really do pop and it does look fairly cool from a distance - it would be even cooler if it was just an inch or two bigger in width and height.
I have not downloaded the Vidiyo App and I am actually not likely to. I know that is what they are designed for but I will admit I got these more for the Minifigures than for any interest in making music videos through the App. This does make the set seem expensive, however, if you are going to be using the Vidiyo App then you have to factor in the actual licensing costs to Universal and their Artists that make the App possible by uploading their back catalogue on there.
Overall this is a good addition to the Vidiyo Stages but it left me feeling a little let down.
