The second of the Gulf Coast Paranormal books focuses again on Midas and Cassidy and the burgeoning romance. This is not the main thrust of the book though, that is very definitely the spooky goings on at the Crescent Theatre.
The format of the story is the same as before - something supernatural happens to a minor player in the prologue. In this case a violinist called Ginger. Then the unfolding of the tale is told through chapters narrated by a different character. Again, the majority of the tale is pushed forward via the means of dialogue which serves to tell us about the character and their interactions with others as well as the "history" behind the haunting.
Cassidy is still painting her visions and this one starts with an ill timed attempt to paint a mural. On retiring to her rooms, we never find out if she ever goes to lunch with her uncle but have to presume she did as he holds the purse strings to her money, Cassidy then has another vision which gives us the name(s) of the haunters. Cue up various standard investigation scenes that are familiar to anyone who has even seen a TV Trailer for Most Haunted or programmes of that ilk before moving rapidly to the cleansing conclusion.
This is a very short story and the last 12% of the e-book is touting for other series by the same author. Very easy to knock this one of your "to read" list in a couple of hours. I would normally knock off stars for this but there is an economy of language used here that does not leave you feeling unfulfilled, the tale spreads itself out at a good fast pace and the jarring continuity errors are less in appearance in this second book. Nothing really ground breaking here but an enjoyable enough tale for a dank December evening.
